First week of January...

Happy New Year everyone! It's great to be back in a normal routine with the daycare children, although, I really enjoyed the holidays. Now we are in for the long haul with no breaks until Good Friday. Hopefully, the Ohio weather will be nice and we will be able to get out plenty this winter season. We need to go outdoors!!!

This week was my FCCERS observation which I did on Tuesday... so I didn't take as many pictures as normal. I think we did well on it (fingers crossed)... and we did as while I was putting this post together the lady who did my observation called and went over my score. We scored a 6.48 (out of 7)... not bad, but hope to do better next year!!! :)

This week we learned the letter Ll. We learned the Hooked on Phonics movement for Ll, sang our Ll song from Mrs. Jones Kindergarten, and we completed our Letter Ll Book.

Since this group is doing so well with letter and sound recognition and the "Your Child Can Read" program during circle time we are reading a sight word book each week in hopes that they can recognize words and get closer to becoming readers. I got the emergent reader from Hubbard's Cupboard This is a picture of my calendar bulletin board with the book on it.

We learned the nusery rhyme "Hey Diddle Diddle" this week and did many fun activities with it. One of the activities we did was sequence the rhyme.

We were introduced to the number 3 and we did many hands-on activities as well as activity sheets. Here is a sampling of activity sheets we did.

This month we will be talking about animals. We are starting with pets. The first pet we worked on were rabbits. We talked about rabbits, did a fingerplay about rabbits, we did the "Sleeping Bunnies" song, and we made two bunnies. We made a rabbit in the snow and we made a fluffy bunny with tissue paper.

The next pet we discussed was the dog. We had fun making a dog headband and then playing a game with the song "Oh Where, Oh Where Has My Little Dog Gone".

Our last animal for the week was the cat. We waterpainted a cat for our project after discussing cats.

That about sums up our first week in January. Hope you enjoyed seeing all the children's wonderful work. Looking forward to you reading about next week.
